One of two contest entries I made for WeLoveFine’s Adventure Time contest! I’d really appreciate it if you guys gave it a 5 rating here and reblog to spread the word! <3
This is really weird, because this looks extremely similar to my design for the contest
I’m really not sure what to think right now…
I’m OP’s roommate and friend. I read your tags and I understand your suspicion, and I’m really sorry this isn’t the first time you’ve been through this. (As an artist myself, it sounds like nightmare fuel.)
I let her know about your response, but it’s five am and she’s asleep (I should be too but whoops). I left her a note about this so she’s aware of it when she wakes up in case she decides to talk to you about this directly, which i think would be a good idea, but I’m not her!
I know that she is constantly drawing and thinking about her artwork. She takes pride in her art and ideas and I would deem it VERY out of character for her to steal an idea, especially so blatantly! She keeps me and our other roomies involved in her creative process constantly, and I’ve never seen such a pattern of behavior from her. Ultimately I’m not sure what she or I could offer in terms of proof, but I hope this ends well for both of you!
Good luck, both with this and your contest entry c:
Ok, that’s really good to know. I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt but it just struck me as an extremely odd coincidence…This kind of thing has happened to me before so i’m glad you can understand my suspicion. Thanks for the kind response!
First off… I hadn’t seen your entry before, but it’s really cute!
I really, really wish you’d just messaged me privately about this… My inbox is always open and I don’t bite! But as you’ve given my work negative attention by reblogging in this manner, I feel I don’t have much choice but to write a public rebuttal. :c
As Katie (my roommate) said, stealing an idea is something I try to avoid, and this is really just a coincidence. I will say that a professor once told me that “everything is a remix” because no idea can be truly original, since we are always influenced by our experiences, the work of others, etc, whether we realize it or not. I try to make my work vary in terms of style, presentation, etc, because I always want to grow and evolve with my artwork and not restrain myself to one particular aesthetic! Katie put it well- I take pride in my work and ideas and give 120% into everything. <3 That said, I created my piece because I liked the character expression sheets I often see of other characters and wanted to try one for BMO since I thought it’d make a cute shirt! <3 I apologize that my design is so similar to yours, but it’s not something I did intentionally or knowingly. Because I am always so busy with school, work, and working on artwork for My Little Pony conventions, I actually don’t follow very many artists, simply because I can’t keep up with it all, haha. This took me by surprise and I’m a little bummed about it, honestly…
I don’t know what I can offer in terms of proof, but I can say that I created my design on November 15th, which you can date check in this tweet which contains a screencap of the final product in Photoshop. I chose to wait until ratings were open to upload it, because I figured the proof of the date of its completion (as well as my other entry that I’m uploading later today) was already on my Twitter page and also because I thought it’d be best to post it alongside the link of where to vote for it, if that makes sense. I don’t know when you created or first posted yours, so I don’t know if that proves anything, but I didn’t know about your entry in the first place. :c
So once again… I’m really sorry this happened, but it’s all just a coincidence and I hope you understand. :c I wish us both luck in the contest! <3
But as a designer in the t-shirt industry for 11 years I can tell you. NO IDEA IS A NEW IDEA. When you enter contests? When you design stuff? It’s been done already. We’re all fans and we’re all thinking of the same tropes. Emotions/”How I’m feeling today” shirts are sold in friggin Target boys. #MassMarket
PS. Love you both! But remember you’re not that original, we can all be replaced and commercial art is the fast food burger joint of the art world. -Queen Jaded Senior Artist Esquire
Did this pic for an art challenge my friend Liz Ashley Enright did a while back, but just recently got some time to color it while watching silly movies with friends. I had wanted to draw Tina and the
tranniesfor a while and the challenge was the perfect excuse. Love Tina and Marshmallow, so I’m always really glad to see them show up on the show. (via ink-imp-sketch)
